High School-Aged Foster Youth Experience Career Exploration and Summer Fun

Reno, NV — From August 3–7, 2025, The RennerVation Foundation, founded by actor and philanthropist Jeremy Renner, will host its inaugural session of Teen Camp, the second installment of its Camp RennerVation summer programming. Held at the Sierra Nevada Journeys Outdoor Education Camp in Portola, California, this weeklong experience serves foster and at-risk teens in grades 9–12 (ages 14–18), blending outdoor adventure with real-world career exploration and mentorship—all at no cost to the camper or their family.

“Our mission is to support the youth who are too often overlooked—especially teens in foster care,” said Kym Renner, President and CEO of The RennerVation Foundation. “This camp was created to give these teens the experiences, resources, and encouragement they deserve as they step into young adulthood.”

Campers will enjoy classic summer activities including kayaking, hiking, archery, a high ropes course, and nightly campfire singalongs. Now in its 19th year of operations, Sierra Nevada Journeys is the perfect partner, offering a learner-centered, inclusive, and equity-focused camp experience that fosters social-emotional growth, teamwork, and leadership.

Career-Focused Programming to Empower Teens

To serve and best support foster teens in this pivotal phase of life, the RennerVation Foundation, supported by their title sponsor Honor Petroleum, has added a series of career-focused and confidence-building experiences to this year’s Teen Camp, including:

  • Chef Kevin Ashton ("Kevmo") – A beloved local TikTok chef (@oldscoolkevmo) will lead a culinary session while sharing his journey of turning a passion into a career.
  • REMSA Care FlightA medical helicopter will land onsite, and emergency care professionals will introduce campers to careers in paramedicine, search and rescue, and crisis response.
  • Tesla – Campers will meet with team members from Tesla’s engineering division and take part in a hands-on STEM activity designed to spark interest in innovation, design thinking, and the growing field of sustainable technology.
  • Professional Firefighters Association – Teens will gear up like real firefighters to explore the field with turnout gear demos, hose spray exercises, and a forcible entry challenge, showcasing the discipline and teamwork needed in fire service.
  • KOLO 8 News – Local anchors Denise Wong and Josh Little will host a media literacy and storytelling session, showing campers how news is made and encouraging them to use their voices with confidence.
  • She Means Business (nonprofit) – A dynamic vision-boarding workshop that encourages campers to define personal and professional goals, build confidence, and identify their unique strengths and aspirations.
  • Enzo the Dog! – Beloved camp companion and therapy dog Enzo will be on-site all week, offering unconditional love, comfort, and plenty of tail wags to help kids feel at home.

The camp will conclude with a Career Carnival Day celebration—a vibrant finale that brings the whole community together. Dutch Bros. Coffee will lead the fast-paced and fun “Coffee Olympics,” while also hosting workshops on communication, reliability, and teamwork to help teens prepare for their first jobs. The nonprofit Dress for Success will also host a session focused on job preparedness and confidence, offering wardrobe tips, interview training, and tools to help campers make strong first impressions. The high-energy carnival will also feature booth games, a boba tea taste test, Kiva Juice smoothies, and live performances by The Biggest Little Circus, creating joyful memories to wrap up an unforgettable week.

Additionally, RennerVation has extended invitations to 60 foster youth who were previously waitlisted for Youth Camp. These kiddos will be welcomed to Sierra Nevada Journeys during the same week to participate in the camp’s full slate of traditional programming, ensuring that no youth is left behind.

Camp RennerVation creates space for children to grow emotionally and socially—whether they’re reconnecting with siblings separated by the foster system, receiving guidance from mentors, or simply learning how to smile again.
